AI技術による「Saizenay」の修復をトライしました。
Besancon市立図書館のオリジナルの画像とMinkoffの出版物が使えるとぬか喜びしましたが。
残念ながらMinkoffは見本画像としては適切ではないことが分かりました。
オリジナル画像と対比してみると分かりますが、Minkoffによる修正ルールは必ずしも統一されていないのです。いろいろな箇所に過剰な修正が入り、例えば、太くし過ぎて文字がつぶれているものもあります。なので、AIはどれが正しいのか迷うことになります。
ちなみに、オリジナル画像はBesançon市立図書館からCDを購入しましたが、Minkoff版は絶版で購入できませんでしたので、パリの国立図書館BnFでコピーを取らせてもらっていました。
An attempt was made to restore "Saizenay" using AI technology.
It was hoped that the original image held at the Besançon Public Library and Minkoff's publications would be available.
Unfortunately, Minkoff's image was inappropriate as a training image.
Comparing it to the original image, it was found that Minkoff's correction rules were inconsistent. Excessive corrections had been made in various places; for example, some letters were too bold or squashed. This confused the AI, making it unable to determine which was correct.
